I am pleased to announce that we have approved and helped our first applicant of the "Who We Help" section of our website. Here name is Donna and I will provide you the letter we received from Donna and how we were able to help her. The letter we received from Donna:
On the morning of Oct. 18, 2014 I woke up and could not see. I went to the Hospital and they did a Cat Scan of the Brain which showed nothing. That Monday morning I went to my Eye Doctor who sent Me to the Hospital to have a MRI Which showed I Had a stroke. I went to my family doctor with the results of the MRI and He in turn sent me to a Neurologist. She said it wasn't a small Stroke and sent me for a MRA which showed the large stroke and a lot of small blockages in the my brain. This all happened exactly one week after my 65th birthday and I was the caretaker of my 83 year old mother, which really saddens me that I can no longer see to take care of Her because she really depended on me for all her needs. I can no longer see to read my Bible, sew, watch TV or Drive my new SUV that my Husband had just gotten me for my Birthday right before my stroke. But I guess what really hurts me the most is that I cant see the Faces of the People that I Love the most. I was told that my vision might come back in time. I have always wore glasses and my vision seems to be coming back a little but my eye doctor wants me to try stronger lenses. With the new lenses that the doctor is recommending for me to get, it cost $300 and I live off a fixed income and can't afford the whole thing. I have paid for half of it but can't pick up the glasses until I pay the remaining balance off. Is there any assistance I may be able to get for this. I am just hoping that getting these glasses will help my vision!
Our response to Donna:
We recently received your request to help you purchase the glasses your doctor is recommending you have after your recent unexpected stroke. We are pleased to tell you that you have been approved for the "Who we help" grant to assist you in paying for your glasses. As Brandon and his family tell the students they speak to, live each day like it's your last because you never know what tomorrow holds for you, and you are a perfect example of this! We are so happy that we can "pay it forward" to you because so many people have done things for Brandon in his recovery that allowed him to get better! Brandon also tells people that life has knocked him down a few times. It has shown him things that he never wanted to see. He has experienced sadness and failures. But one thing is for sure, he always gets up! Donna, though this was an unexpected thing that has happened to you, know that there is still a reason for you to be here! Remember courage isn't having the strength to go on. It is going on when you don't have strength! If you feel like you're at rock bottom, know God has a purpose and a plan for your life! Fight through this struggle and keep climbing through this hurdle you have been faced with and reach the mountain top! Even in your darkest moments God has a purpose for you!
We are so happy to have been able to help Donna in her recovery from her Stroke! Please remember that Brandon and his family have been doing the speeches and collecting proceeds to help others out in the community that are faced with situations like Donna.
